OUR VILLAGE:
The Village begins its Culinary Arts Program to prepare participants for careers as chefs in the food and hospitality industry. The eight month training program is modeled after the Johnson & Wales curriculum.

Supporting the San Diego County Homeless Court Program since it began in 1988, the Village begins hosting the court every other month and eventually every month.

St. Vincent's University of the Human Spirit (UHS) graduates its first students. Based on its unique Bridges to Independence rehabilitation curriculum, UHS uses a credit-hour system to mark a resident's growth toward self-sufficiency and celebrates graduates every month.

FATHER JOE:
Father Joe celebrates his 20th anniversary at St. Vincent de Paul Village.

Father Joe initiates the annual Thanksgiving Day 5K Run/Walk in Balboa Park with hundreds adults and families participating. In 2009 more than 10,000 people enjoyed the event.
