1980

OUR VILLAGE:
After 20 years on Fourth Avenue and Market Street, St. Mary of the Wayside was closed in October as the St. Vincent de Paul Center made plans to move.

 

SD HISTORY:
The Centre City Development Corporation, founded in 1975, began implementing plans to reinvent San Diego's urban core and notified St. Vincent de Paul Center it would have to sell or be condemned in a few years.

The San Diego Trolley, first line in the city's new light-rail transit system, is dedicated. 1981 - San Diego Trolley begins service to border; 1985, East Line; 1990 Bayside Line; 1992, North Line; 1998, Mission Valley Line.
