OUR VILLAGE:
Staked by a lead gift from Joan Kroc, the Joan Kroc Center opens for 350 children and adults at St. Vincent de Paul Center, 1501 Imperial Avenue, San Diego.

Congregation Beth Israel begins its Hunger Project and serves weekly Sunday meals at the Center.

The first annual Red Boudreau Memorial Dinner/Roast benefiting the Center is sponsored by several legal groups including San Diego Trial Lawyers Association and San Diego Defense Lawyers. This year's
Red Boudreau Trial Lawyers Dinner will be held in March. Learn More

Red Boudreau, early supporter of St. Vincent de Paul Center,
hands out jackets to neighbors in need.

SD HISTORY:
Skipper Dennis Conner, at the helm of "Stars and Stripes", wins the America's Cup for the San Diego Yacht Club, defeating Australia's "Kookaburra". He wins again in 1988.

FATHER JOE:
Continuing a tradition he began in his parishes, Father Joe sets up a Living Nativity in the Joan Kroc Center courtyard.

Taking part in the ribbon cutting ceremony are, from left, Msgr. Joseph Topping, former director of St. Vincent de Paul Center; Mrs. Manuela Piatti, representing the many San Diegans that helped pay for the JKC with small contributions: San Diego Bishop Leo T. Maher; philanthropist Joan Kroc; and St. Vincent de Paul Center director, Father Joe Carroll.
