Give a man a fish …

The donation of fish from the San Diego nonprofit organization Fish. Food. Feel Good. (in July 2010) has served a dual purpose at St. Vincent de Paul Village. The delicious fresh fish provides a hearty, nutritious meal for residents and the community, and also gives students in the Culinary Arts Program lessons in the art of filleting. “Every student I spoke with told me this was their first time filleting a fish and they were very appreciative not only for the fresh food, but for the practical experience they were learning,” says Todd Bluechel, founder of Fish. Food. Feel Good.

Pricewaterhouse Coopers Volunteers visit the Village on July 9, 2010

On July 9, 2010 a large group of PricewaterhouseCoopers Volunteers arrived at the Village to work in three areas. One group was going to work with the Facilities Department to install Bunk Bed “steps” in the PMC dormitory and also work with installing a big screen outside of the BMT temporary shelter, for viewing movies. The second group was assigned to work in the Career & Education Center doing mock interviews with our residents. Residents that signed up for this training dressed in business attire and came ready to be interviewed and be given pointers as part of their work in Career Track. The third group after lunch went of off to do craft activities with the children from Children’s Services. And others mentored residents, another program offered to them by the Career & Education Center. This is one of our regular volunteer groups that are part of the important community support the Village receives regularly – Neighbors Helping Neighbors®.
