Culinary Arts Program

“St. Vincent de Paul Village’s Culinary Arts Program not only gave me a job, but a career. After the six months of training and countless special events, my self-esteem and culinary understanding dramatically increased. I now work for the Omni here in San Diego and am able to support myself and my family.” – Mary Beth W., Village graduate

Through the onsite Culinary Arts Program, residents train for careers in the food service industry, completing internships at local restaurants to gain the tools for a successful employment in this field. This eight-month program incorporates Johnson & Wales curriculum, and ServSafe and CPR training. Village residents and community members learn the industry in six months of classroom and lab training in Village kitchens and two-month internships in local businesses, including five-star hotels.

Impact:
Since the Culinary Arts Program’s inception, 100% of students that have successfully completed the program have received full-time jobs in their field.

CAP graduates earn an average of $10.50 an hour in food service industry jobs.
