VCARE – Village Comprehensive Approach to Reach and Empower

“I came to St. Vincent’s from jail after a drug charge. I hadn’t had any treatment for my mental illness for two years. VCARE helped me get into classes that challenged me to change my behavior and attitude on life. Now I utilize all that is available for me to better myself and treat my mental illness.” – Kyle, Village graduate

Some residents arrive at the Village living with mental illness, substance abuse disorders or both in addition to having a prolonged history of homelessness. These residents need extra help to navigate the continuum of services available at the Village. Residents identified with these needs are assigned to the VCARE team to help them access transformational services and permanent affordable housing, and to offer support in times of crisis.

Impact:
In an average year, 73% of VCARE residents report improvements in sobriety, 79% report improvements in depression, and 78% report improvements in perception of mental health.

47% of VCARE residents move to more stable housing after their stay at the Village, as compared to 21% prior to the inception of VCARE.
